“Again came the ominous knocks, louder, more insistent; but whether threatening or merely clamorous he could not decide. Now, with a veil lifted he approached the doors of the lobby with utmost dread and having fixed his eyes steadily on the drawer from which the tapping evidently proceeded, he saw what looked to be the knuckle-bone of a leg of lamb, about the size of a very small walnut, protruding and jerking repeatedly against the wood lying beneath its doors. At length the drawer opened further, and a naked human leg grinded its way through the fold. The foot arrived with a dense, deathlike sound to the floor, resting there for what seemed to the terrified man to be at least half a minute before the body to which it belonged was disclosed to his view.”

Reblogged this on Dr. Jekyll & Ms. Hyde…..
I love the idea of haunted objects but from a personal perspective I always think of it more in terms of a human spirit tied to the object rather than the object itself becoming animated
Absolutely! In these tales it is most definitely the association rather than the sheer physicality. Thanks for reading Paula.
Hi Paula,
I am delighted to announce the launch of my first collection of ghost stories:
GHOSTS AND OTHER SUPERNATURAL GUESTS – 12 Tales of haunting
P. J. Hodge spins rich, spine-chilling and beautifully written tales that tell of haunted ancestral homes, supernaturally-possessed objects and revengeful spectres that will not rest until their work is done.
Mesmerising, understated, and convincingly Victorian in tone, this is a frighteningly good collection of stories. Purchase at your own risk!
Please share and pass this on to fellow ghost story fans. Also, if you read the book and have the time, would you be so kind as to write a review for the Amazon book page and Goodreads. Thank you!

If you enjoy period ghost tales of that bygone England of country house gatherings, servants and hansom cabs, with smog-filled days and sinister churchyard nights, you’ll love this varied and entertaining collection of chillers.
An Amazon review:
‘I rarely get time to read so I always look for books containing short stories so I can finish them in a single reading session. Once I started reading it however I couldn’t put it down! It is superbly written and you immediately get drawn into it. One of the best short story book I have read to date. Looking forward to the next book already.’ Richie
Kind regards, Paul
I just bought it though I warn you I am terrible for reading at the minute but I promise to try to get it read soon and if I read I always leave a rating (unless I hate it which is very very rare so don’t worry lol) but have shared I bought it on twitter
Paula, many thanks for that! No worries at all about the reading pace; I just value your support. Kind regards, Paul
