Last weekend, I visited Cambridge and became fascinated by this untamed tree that sits beneath the spires of King’s College. Age and the elements has given it such a haunted quality; I wonder if MR James ever gazed upon it and thought the same?
I am delighted to announce the launch of my first collection of ghost stories:
GHOSTS AND OTHER SUPERNATURAL GUESTS – 12 Tales of haunting
P. J. Hodge spins rich, spine-chilling and beautifully written tales that tell of haunted ancestral homes, supernaturally-possessed objects and revengeful spectres that will not rest until their work is done.
Mesmerising, understated, and convincingly Victorian in tone, this is a frighteningly good collection of stories. Purchase at your own risk!
Please share and pass this on to fellow ghost story fans. Also, if you read the book and have the time, would you be so kind as to write a review for the Amazon book page and Goodreads. Thank you!
If you enjoy period ghost tales of that bygone England of country house gatherings, servants and hansom cabs, with smog-filled days and sinister churchyard nights, you’ll love this varied and entertaining collection of chillers.
An Amazon review:
‘I rarely get time to read so I always look for books containing short stories so I can finish them in a single reading session. Once I started reading it however I couldn’t put it down! It is superbly written and you immediately get drawn into it. One of the best short story book I have read to date. Looking forward to the next book already.’ Richie

The contrast between the ordered works of man and the apparent untamed disorder of nature is stark, though the fact is the tree knows exactly how to grow to get the most sunshine and survive. And no one ever looks at a tree and criticizes it saying “why did you grow that branch that way?” I wish humans for all their eccentricities could be see with such uncritical eyes.
Absolutely, but my mischievous mind dwells upon a darker thought; the tree is fully aware of the statement its arborescent chaos makes, rising out from the lands of the alien priories, reaping revenge above.

I’ve always thought trees look as though they might suddenly stand up and walk. This particular tree would look so majestic walking solemnly past the cathedral at night. A beautiful picture.
Reblogged this on forestpunk.
that is one Medusa of a tree!
Yes, its branching structure really has to be seen!
fabulous picture
Thank you!
Oh. My! What a stunning tree. Did you take this picture? I’d love to pin this post.
Yes, I did take the picture. Feel free to repin but please copyright. Thanks 🙂
Such a beautiful picture!

An amazing tree – so much presence. It more than matches the elegant architecture behind it.
Yes, I agree, it’s quite a powerful pairing.

It’s a grand, magnificent tree with awesome presence. Excellent photo. Thank you!
A pleasure!
I’ve been to Cambridge, can’t believe I missed this magical tree! Great photo.
you wonder how old this tree must be – the things it has seen during its lifetime.
That was exactly my thought when I first cast my eyes upon it.
